Hi:) im trying to organise a trip to kerry to climb carrantouhill. Have some qs though. Group of about 6. We’re all fairly fit but none of us are experienced climbers. Will we need to get a guide to ensure a safe climb? That’ll cost extra which i’d like to avoid unless it is needed to make sure we all get home again in one piece. If a guide is needed where’s the best place to find one, a cheap one if possible. Is it ridiculous to think of trying this before the summer months? when is a good time to try? we’re traveling from kildare so we’ll probly need to get a minibus..again i’m trying to keep cost down on this so should i go private or try and find a company that works with climbing parties? if we decide we’d like to stay overnight is it possible to do this cheaply? when it comes to clothes and supplies, etc how prepared do we need to be? ive looked through a few websites so far and will research more but i thought id try get a few opinions to start me off. thanks so much!

Putting this question in the climbing section is a bit odd. Unless you’re planning something extraordinary… normally you’d require hiking boots for Carrantouhill, not climbing gear.
Navigation – If any of you can use a map and compass, you should be fine without a guide.
Time of year – Summer is clearly your best option.
Minibus – If the six of you don’t know someone who can lend you one for the weekend, spend the next few months making new friends
B&B – Sorry, there are several in the vicinity but I can’t provide a personal recommendation.
More info – Have you already seen this website – great route descriptions and other info: http://www.kerrymountainrescue.ie/routes/index.html
